The idea for Kyrö Distillery Company, an all-rye distillery from Finland, was born in a classic Finnish way – with a group of friends enjoying a sauna and drinking rye whisky.
In May 2012 five friends were enjoying rye whisky in a sauna when they tumbled on the topic of rye whiskey production in Finland. They started to wonder why there is not a rye whisky distillery in Finland and thought that there should most certainly be one. Surprisingly, the idea of starting their own distillery still seemed like a good one the following day, and just like that, from dreaming to daring, the journey of Kyrö began. The story of Kyrö is one of those stories that did not stop at being just a dream for this group of friends; they made it happen. Today the distillery has grown from a wild dream to a craft powerhouse with skill and capacity — and high-quality spirits, always made from 100% Finnish rye.
Behind the Kyrö brand, today, stand several types of high-quality spirits worthy of attention, but today we are writing about Kyrö Malt Rye Whiskey. A few years after the idea of the Kyrö Distillery was born, Kyrö released their Kyrö Malt Rye Whisky. Kyrö Malt is the first Finnish single-batch rye whisky, made from 100% malted Finnish wholegrain rye. It is double pot-distilled and aged in new American white oak casks. Only intense and spicy Finnish rye, smoothening pot distillation, and bold barrels are used for its production which is resulting in a whiskey you have never tasted before.
The taste profile of Kyrö Malt is characterized by its unique aromatic notes of vanilla, caramel, dried fruits, and earthy rye. On the palate, you will taste sweet rye bread, honey, and wild berries with a peppery finish smoothed with mocha and caramel.
The quality of this whiskey is further evidenced by an award of 98/100 points and an outstanding medal from the International Wine and Spirits Competition 2020.
