Do you know the story of how Kyrö began? This, for sure, is one of those stories that you would most definitely remember if you heard it from your friends during Saturday night out (yes, even the crazy one).

Believe it or not, the company was founded in the sauna. You read it correctly. In 2012, a group of 5 friends were just having a relaxing sauna day and were enjoying rye whisky when they tumbled on the topic of rye whiskey production in Finland. Why was nobody making it? Finland found its place in the top 20 world’s biggest exporters of rye, and yet, no one took advantage of the opportunity. Surprisingly, the idea of starting their own distillery still seemed like a good one the next day, and just like that, from dreaming to daring, the journey of Kyrö began. Today the distillery has grown from a wild dream to a craft powerhouse with skill and capacity — and high-quality spirits. Always made from 100% Finnish rye.

Even though certain things and situations in (business) life simply cannot be anticipated, such as was the case with Covid-19 pandemics, Kyrö found a way to adapt to the new reality very quickly as they started producing hand sanitizers. The production not only helped the company to avoid lay-offs, but it was also supporting health care workers. In 2020, they sold more hand sanitizer than gin. This only proves that we never know what the future brings and, as the founders stated, “best adventures are always ahead”.

In order to sustain the high quality of its products, Kyrö Distillery Company always stays true to its Finnish heritage. They only work with 100% whole-grain rye, even though it is the most

demanding one to distill.

Although the idea of starting their own company was based on the idea of making their own

whisky, the founders realized that while the initial batch of whisky was quietly resting in barrels, it may be important to have something else to sell while they waited. As a result, they created gin. The gin turned out to be rather good as in 2015, a gin and tonic made with ‘Napue rye gin’.

Napue rye gin was awarded Best Gin for the Gin and Tonic category in the International Wine and Spirit Competition.

After the award was published, they sold out in two days! This is proof that Kyrö gins not only promise but also deliver intense and unique flavors that are, in addition, vegan and gluten-free. Currently, they are producing 3 types of gin: Kyrö Gin, KyröDark Gin, and Kyrö Pink Gin.

Kyrö Gin

Is an award-winning gin. It is inspired by wild nature with 4 locally foraged botanicals and 13 traditional gin botanicals. Its key components are deeply rooted in the very heart of Finnish nature. Everyone who experienced this will know what we are talking about.

Kyrö Dark Gin

Is a barrel-aged gin perfect for those days when the weather sucks but you are determined to turn the day into a great one.

Weather and life, in general, can get fierce, but the worst storms just make the joy of shared shelter even better. For those moments of seeking cover from the elements, Kyrö Dark Gin is crafted.

It is inspired by this fierce weather and is a perfect union of Finnish wholegrain rye and 17 spices and botanicals. Kyrö Dark Gin will warm you up or cool you down. It is up to you as it can be enjoyed hot or cold.

Kyrö Pink Gin

Is made truly to be enjoyed by everyone; it is a celebration of true equality in taste, people & thoughts.

Kyrö Pink Gin is a traditionally made small-batch gin. It’s infused with foraged lingonberries, strawberries & rhubarb – the best of Finnish forests and gardens.

Pink Gin gets the pink color from natural ingredients like strawberry and rhubarb. With time the color might fade, however, this does not affect the taste or quality of Kyrö Pink Gin.
